Hello,
My name is Frank Zindler. I am President of American Atheists and I want to welcome you on behalf of our organization to our site on the World-Wide Web. This site is just one of our many outreach activities. We also produce The Atheist Viewpoint (a cable-access television program) and a monthly magazine called American Atheist. In addition, we publish important new Atheist books under the imprint of American Atheist Press and preserve precious old “Freethought” books and ephemera — in some cases, the only copies known to have eluded the fires of Christian fanatics over the course of the last two centuries. But perhaps most important of all, we support a legal outreach that helps to defend the Jeffersonian “Wall of Separation” between government and religion and — and this is a big ‘and’ — we actively are defending the rights of Atheists and other skeptics wherever their rights are being trampled by the religious establishment. Before you head for the Visitor’s Center or other parts of our Web-site, let me tell you a bit about my background. For nearly twenty years I was a professor of biology, geology, and psychobiology at a branch of the State University of New York. For the past twenty-five years I have been employed by a scientific society as a linguist and editor of chemical research literature. I became a member of American Atheists in 1977 and served on the board of directors during the 1980s and ’90s. I have served as Managing Editor of American Atheist Press since the murder in 1995 of Madalyn Murray O’Hair (the founder of American Atheists), her son Jon Murray, and her granddaughter Robin Murray-O’Hair (the previous Managing Editor). Several years ago I published The Jesus the Jews Never Knew, a book showing that the ancient Jews never heard of ‘Jesus of Nazareth.’ In fact, they never heard of ‘Nazareth’ — a site that was uninhabited at the time Jesus is supposed to have lived there. For more than thirty years I have written articles for American Atheist, covering such far-flung topics as philosophy, logic, biblical criticism, the non-historicity of Jesus, the origins of life, creationism and evolution, ‘Flood Geology’, Mormonism, poetry, and First-Amendment law. Many of these articles are scattered across the pages of this Web-site and you almost surely will find some of them even without looking. It is the goal of American Atheists to provide you with new avenues for learning about Atheist philosophy and to inform you about state-church separation issues from an Atheist perspective. We hope you will find our information thought-provoking, intellectually challenging, and hard-core Atheist. We encourage you to make visits to this site a part of your Atheist lifestyle. We urge you to share Atheism with friends and family. We hope you too will become an activist for the cause of reason, sanity, and reality — in short, for Atheism. By ‘coming out’ to others, you will be surprised how easy it becomes for others to admit that perhaps they too are Atheists! You can become a beacon of hope to many who still are hiding in their closets. Make their world a less-lonely place in this unrelentingly religious society. Very shortly, this site will be undergoing a thorough and far-reaching redesign and remapping. We hope you will be patient as we work to make this site everything you need it to be. If you have suggestions for features or functions for the new site you may share them with us by writing to info@atheists.org. For Reason, Frank R. Zindler President, American Atheists |
